527495 2007-02-25 05:00:00 Anyone ever used or heard of a Zip Drive?

I have an old Iomega unit on USB and it's fantastic for those short transfers and such..I even have it shared on my LAN with three other puters.

I suppose they are rather dated..but then again, so am I.

Yeah, our old PII comp had one. Internal.
Marvelous device, as you could boot from them, and they were a lot faster than floppies, and not near so noisy.

And bigger too . . . . . they are still for sale at the local big box stores here . . . maybe there's a resurgence of them?

With flops among the missing now, maybe the Zippers will make a big comeback . . . .

527497 2007-02-25 08:49:00 Hey Jack thanks for starting this thread because I am thinking of getting a larger USB stick / pen drive since my 256 Mb Rundisk is now too small .

Prices sure have dropped!

Here are my choices:

Kingston 2 Gb with 5 yr warranty, $31 . 85
. co . nz/shop/step1 . php?number=6828" target="_blank">c1com . co . nz

Transcend JetFlash V30 4GB Flash Stick Drive USB 2 . 0, mini Size, 2 Year Return to Base Warranty $52 . 20
. computerdirect . co . nz/products/product . asp?KEY=11072&grp=FLA" target="_blank">www . computerdirect . co . nz

RunDisk 4 Gb $51 but warranty not stated
. co . nz/shop/step1 . php?number=6828" target="_blank">c1com . co . nz

Or for a cheapie: Rundisk 1GB USB v2 . 0 Flash Pen Drive: Retail Pack, Includes Necktie & 80cm USB Extension Cord, Higher Speed SLC Samsung Chipset $18 (warranty not stated)
. computerdirect . co . nz/products/product . asp?KEY=11206&grp=FLA" target="_blank">www . computerdirect . co . nz

About SIZE . . . I used to think 1 Gb would be huge, but now 4 Gb does not seem enough since it would be nice to back up something the size of a DVD, 4 . 7 Gb .

527498 2007-02-25 10:58:00 Rundisk 1GB USB v2.0 Flash Pen Drive

I have one of these, it just failed today, have only used it about six times. Appears in Explorer but 0 bytes, will not format.

527499 2007-02-25 11:09:00 Yeah, same as SurferJoe here as well. Over the last couple of weeks, whenever I plug in a SD card or a USB flash drive (256MB and 512 MB, normal and U3), My computer just wont show the icons or any indication that I have actually plugged anything in and I just have to go in and click on all drives available to find my one. Weird??? beeswax34 (63)
527500 2007-02-25 16:56:00 Just ordered this from Accent.
Kingston
DataTraveler II+, 2GB, USB 2, Migo Edition 27 Feb $69.89

I know It's top price, but it includes fright and gst. And I prefer Ascent's service.

So please don't fill the page up with posts about "I could have got it cheaper" or "brand X is better"

527501 2007-02-25 19:02:00 zqwerty, beeswax : your comments underline the importance of getting a decent warranty.

Jack, what warranty does your's have, and is there a difference between DataTraveler II+ and DataTraveller I (other than price)?

Data Traveller 1 is only listed up to 1gb.

5 year warranty. Plus up to 3 more years at a price.

Just wondering what "Migo Edition" means.

I guess you ordered before I made my post 9.49 PM yesterday that showed a 2 Gb Data Traveller for half of what you paid - sorry I was too late for you but anyway it is always a good idea to use PriceSpy to get the best deal.

It looks as if Migo refers to software that comes with a DataTraveller stick.
