527873 2007-02-25 22:47:00 Looking back at yr reply I would say bittorrent consul is what you want.right clk and clk create desktop shortcut then click on the desktop shortcut that is created.

The bittorrent console is a python script type file and unlike windows.. when i right click on the icon theres no option that says create shortcut or send to desktop. I also checked for hidden files like u said and nuthing.. those 3 files i mentioned earlier are the only ones with the word bittorrent in them

527874 2007-02-25 23:02:00 I am a bit out of my depth here but I have had just about every linux Os over many years and I have to say that Fedora which I tried recently was one of the most difficult to grasp.
Someone will come along and give you directions do not give up.

thanks for ur help kjaada, if its of any help.. i just remembered that when i installed bittorrent using yum i had to log in as a su (superuser) and not my normal user account. so m guessing that could be the reason for not finding the executable file..(or not ;) ) .. thanks anyways mate.

527876 2007-02-25 23:42:00 Jen is usually the "man" on this sort of stuff but she may have gone back to bed cause I noticed she was on the ball early today. kjaada (253)
527877 2007-02-26 00:05:00 I tried FC5 last year but I gave up because it was too hard to learn and took too much time to learn... FC5 is good for servers, but not as a normal desktop OS due to lack of packages via yum...

Now that I have more time I am learning Linux, currently I am running Debian Etch as a web/FTP and local file server, that is good and easy to use. and I am also in the midst of installing and getting Gentoo up and running... well the installation is done, but having a few problems getting things to play nicely... :badpc:

I am even going to install and run Debian as my main OS as soon as my Gentoo Media Box is up and running...

527878 2007-02-26 00:27:00 Opensuse and Ubuntu would be top of the list for free updating and ease of conversion from Windoze.Xandros is the best but it does cost. These are my personal opinions. The mirror for Open Suse is en.opensuse.org and you will only require the first 3 ISO's.Then learn from there on.If you are really interested then send me a PM and we can "talk" further. kjaada (253)
527879 2007-02-26 04:28:00 Righto. Well you don't have a standard GUI bittorrent installed. You have a command-line only version (bittorrent-console) and a semi-GUI version using curses (ie, butt ugly) called bittorrent-curses. Neither of these will run using the ALT-F2 method as they both run from/in a console (terminal) window, hence no menu or desktop shortcut.

You need to install a torrent client that uses a GUI front end client (click and point type window) and can probably use the bittorrent as the back-end. You should be able to find a suitable one in Yum extender (Yumex).

[edit] Just had a look in the Yum repositories and you can install either bittorrent-gui or azureus to use as a graphical front-end. Both should put a listing for the program in the menu once installed.

[further edit] Both of those programs are available on the Fedora installation CD if you don't mind using older versions. To access the package contents of the CD/DVD use the Add/Remove software program or just go ALT-F2 and enter in pirut and then the root password at the prompt. Look under Applications > Graphical Internet. Click on the "Optional packages" button and then select either bittorrent-gui or azureus by putting a check mark beside it and click Close followed by Apply at the main menu. Follow the prompts to install it and make sure you have the Fedora CDs or DVD handy for when it asks for it.

527880 2007-02-26 06:21:00 Thanks a million Jen, I finally got my downloads going. I guess linux is not that bad after all, just gota know what you are doing and do it right. Cheers ronyville (10611)
527881 2007-02-26 08:21:00 Glad to hear you got it sorted. :)

There are a tonne of user guides for Fedora out there that can help you with its everyday use and how to get the best out of it. The Unofficial Fedora FAQ ( http://www.fedorafaq.org/) is a good place to start.

527882 2007-02-26 09:48:00 Hi, I got another small problem, i got 2 machines running xp pro (e.g. XpA and XpB) and one running linux. I have shared files on these machines. I can access the shared files on linux at XpA but cant not access them at XpB (running zonealarm firewall, and even wen its disabled i still cant access the linux files), but i can access the files on XpA. In brief.. XpA can access linux but XpB can not but XpB can access XpA. mmmmmmmmm any ideas people? ronyville (10611)
