527856 2007-02-26 07:43:00 David, et. al., what is "SLI or Crossfire ability"? Just for gaming?
I know I could google it but I like PF1 definitions better. :p

527857 2007-02-26 07:44:00 emes34 - after your  purchases, come back here and tell all, OK? Thanks. Strommer (42)
527858 2007-02-26 11:42:00 Take a look at TomsHardware CPU (www23.tomshardware.com) and Graphics (www23.tomshardware.com) charts. This would simplify the process to find a wanted combination a little. About SLI and CrossFire, very very shortly these are competing technologies combining methods of parallel processing of graphics scene and share the rendering. mustwaitforever (11917)

I know I could google it but I like PF1 definitions better. :p Basically it gives the ability to connect multiple GFX cards in tandem, SLI is nVidia's multi card interface and IIRC only supports 2 cards in SLI at max ATM and Crossfire is ATI's multi card interface, which IIRC can support as many cards as the mobo has PCI-E slots...

527860 2007-02-26 18:59:00 How does duo core compare with AMD ??

I'll answer my own question:
www23.tomshardware.com

It looks as though the AMD Athlons hold their own with the Intel Duo Cores.

527861 2007-02-26 19:44:00 In that case, get the best Intel Core 2 Duo you can afford, as much DDR2 800 RAM as you can (2GB+ is best for gaming) and the mobo Steve posted looks good (nice one Steve :) ) though it doesn't have SLI or Crossfire ability...

R 600 is going to be released in about 5 weeks, so you could wait for that (will be the best GFX cards out).

So overall for RAM, CPU, GFX Card and Mobo how much would you like to spend?

R600 is now delayed to Q2, lots of speculations as to why its not ready...

It looks as though the AMD Athlons hold their own with the Intel Duo Cores. Not always, in most apps, the C2D beats the Athlons hands down, gaming is one area where the Athlon does not cut it... though that review has the FX7x which is quad core FXs... so they should be quite good when they are out (if not expensive)

Sure the FX62 is up there, bu run a price comparison with the C2D and you will find the C2D is more cost effective...
