527536 2007-02-24 02:07:00 Would love to know how to load new o/s. On start up msg reads "O/S not found". Previous owner wiped hdd but asures me that it went ok before he passed it on to me. Wanting to install xandros, which I've done on another system and was a breeze. So I enter setup and change values on boot screen to cd rom drive as first on the list...no luck.
System is pretty old- HP 6701, 633 mhz, supposed to have 64mb ram but has had another stick added @ 256mb total 320mb.
And would love to know what a shadowed bios is? Thanks.

527537 2007-02-24 02:18:00 Errr the BIOS shadowed thing has nothing to do with booting into windows.

And umm if the guy wiped it, there's nothing on the hdd, so either Windows or XP will have to be reinstalled.

I take it, Linux is on this cd if u want to install it?

Did u change it to the cd in the bios and save settings then see what would happen then?? Or is this what the prob is the cd doesnt boot / do anything?

527538 2007-02-24 02:25:00 In set up window, changed settings under the "boot" heading to ATAPI cd-rom drive as no 1 on the list...nothing happens. I save changes and exit correctly, so maybe this won't boot from disc.? limepile (96)
527539 2007-02-24 02:38:00 Exit set up and shut down, with linux cd in drive. Restart, get post and diagnostic screen, then black screen with "O/S not found" and blinking cursor... limepile (96)
527540 2007-02-24 02:43:00 mmmm, does have a floppy drive. Can I copy linux cd onto floppy? As it is a bootable disc and I will have to copy it on my nice new PC ( that isn't running Vista!!!) I'm reluctant to put it in my DVD drive to copy it, or am I being silly!? limepile (96)
527541 2007-02-25 02:59:00 There used to be a floppy boot image available for all distributions. Have a look for a "DOS" directory on the CD, with a programme to write a floppy, with a subdirectory containing some ~1.4 MB images. You can look at this from Windows. Graham L (2)
