1411919 2015-11-25 20:19:00 My home network works perfectly fine before the Win10 major upgrade (10586).

Just turned ON my Win10 PC this morning, and I can never access my home network to get some files from my other Win8.1 PC; no other PCs are shown in network folder.

It took much longer to startup too.

Win 10 is still so unstable after almost 4 months of its official release to the public.

1411920 2015-11-25 21:02:00 You'll have to set it all back up again, or at least check the settings. The latest upgrade set lots of settings back to defaults. This is why they pulled it the other day - Major cockup, and the "patch" they put out to fix it didn't work either. Had two the same.

W10 will ALWAYS be a beta, its never finished.

1411921 2015-11-25 21:10:00 Have reset my home network settings, updated Windows again ( as it prompted me), restarted my PC, went to networks, still none of my networked PCs shown.

Shut down Win10, restarted, (thought it may work) but, no, no, ...............

1411922 2015-11-25 21:35:00 Make sure you've joined the homegroup again if using the new style of networking or set up the workgroup name if doing it the older way. Somehow i always end up using both.

Personally I'm of the opinion MS have never gotten home networking completely right. The only devices on my network my windows PC's can always reliable see are not other windows devices. The NAS running a custom Linux OS and the PS3 and my 5.1 receiver and also the brother printer - these can always be found, but other windows PC's? usually, mostly, they work, but not always.

Sometimes you can see they are there but not access them, sometimes file transfers only work in one direction from 1 machine, sometimes you have to start them in the right sequence for them to all see each other. I've had less trouble lately but it's still not perfect. In fact the NAS fixes it for me because it's a common point I can transfer to and from no matter whether the rest of the network is working right.

1411923 2015-11-25 22:20:00 just reinforces my decision to avoid win10 like the plague until at least another year or 2...

Nothing wrong with 7 at all...

1411924 2015-11-25 22:38:00 Works fine here. Using 2 Win10 and 1 Win7 PC. Only thing I do is turn off password sharing, make sure the workgroup names are the same, and share a folder.

But, I dont use Homegroup (never have).

The Win10 PC's pick up the dvd players here (both Sony with wireless built in).

The Win10 pc's can scan from and print to the printer wirelessly fine. And I use 2 smartphones to update them thru the wireless. Saves me using credit.

1411925 2015-11-26 00:43:00 I manually set up the home work sharing, ip address, computer name, workgroup name, etc.; all over again but the Win10 machine just refuses to to even 'see' my other network computers - I have 2 other desktop PCs (1 Win7 1 Win8.1) and a laptop (Win7). They are all working perfectly with this Win10 machine before this 'major upgrade'. What the hell is MS doing?????

Anyway, no big deal, this Win10 is just a spare computer, I can always fine other means to transfer files. But, I am just frustrated with MS messing up a new OS. Fortunately, it's FREE -- No Free Lunches ????!!!!

1411926 2015-11-26 01:01:00 Did you create any mapped network drives to transfer files to?? Because this may slow things down when you reboot

All I do is create a folder on each PC. And add everyone, then select read/write. Then go to run, type shell:sendto and add shortcuts to a folder on the other PC's.

Then I can send files to whatever by clicking on a file / right mouse / send to (name of folder/PC I added).

Just as long as the other pc's are on (and password sharing is off), it should work

1411927 2015-11-26 03:42:00 No, I don't map the nwk drives. I just go to Network, click the shared folder and transfer whatever files I need. Just a few clicks away, anyway.

Sadly, this Win10 upgrade messed it up! Well, the next update may fix it, who knows.

Is network Discovery Turned on in the Windows 10 ?
Are you using a Email account and password to log into the W10 Computer (this ones a good "gotya")
