1405146 2015-07-21 22:35:00 Morning all. I do training for a couple of non-profit groups at a range of different places. Like to use a laptop to support the work. I'm reluctant to take my home laptop on the road, so would like to buy a low cost laptop (<$500?) that would allow me to write documents in Office 2010 and connect to a potentially wide range of projectors (so VGA and HDMI output). There's no guarantee wi-fi will be available everywhere I present, so a Chromebook is not viable. I'd appreciate any comments/recommendations on the suitability/quality of the various laptops available at JB. HN, NL, DS and WS in that $400 - $500 price range. Many thanks. ninox (17264)
1405147 2015-07-21 23:03:00 Chances are it wont have both VGA & HDMI . If you really need both you may need to buy an active USB converter .
also add in the cost of buying MS Office , either full Retail or Office 365 , thats going to knock back the budget a bit. You might be able to save some money by using freeware
Open Office (urgh awefull) or Libre Office .

at $400 - $500 , Id imagine there wouldnt be a big difference in quality between the brands.

1ghz is plenty. i use an amd c50 daily with 4GB of ram, a SSD and windows 10 and have fout it to be quite responsive. that being said even slightly more frequency is substantially more powerful.

cheapest laptop on the market at $350 will be wildly sufficient

HP seem to love DisplayPort, but you can buy a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for about $15.
