1404868 2015-07-14 09:40:00 In the thread Jen closed, she mentioned the ignore option:

"vBulletin has a cool feature where you can add people to your ignore list. This makes their posts invisible. To add a user to your ignore list, click on their name and then on the far left menu pane, select "Add to ignore list". "

This is ok in as much as you cant see their posts, but they can still see yours.

This then leads to the problem that you can see that they have made a post, but you just can't read it. This can generate feelings of anxiety over what you have missed...I wonder what they said..........I wonder what they said.........until it drives you crazy :)

To make it fair there should be a principle of reciprocity, such that if you can't see their post, then they can't see yours either.

This principle was expounded in one form by Douglas Adams with The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.

The Guide calls the bugblatter the stupidest creature in the entire universe - so profoundly unintelligent that, if you can't see it, it assumes it can't see you.

In the old computer game you had to try to escape from being chewed up by the beast's tungsten carbide teeth.

Even though you may have picked up a Bugblatter ray gun on your travels, all it did was to emit a few harmless rays, whereupon you were devoured and had to start the game over.

The creature's aforementioned stupidity makes it relatively easy to deal with - if the Guide is to be believed. For, according to the Guide, draping a towel over your head will confuse the beast long enough for one to make a quick getaway. This is because (as mentioned above) the philosophy of The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast is that, if you can't see it, it can't see you.

Surely, if you can't stand the heat, then you probably shouldn't be in the kitchen to begin with :)

At least with the current system, we are all masters of our own destinies.

It doesn't worry me one iota what others say or think of me. Maybe I am thick skinned ;)
