1404823 2015-07-14 05:45:00 Purchased an item from an online NZ computer store that had not done business with before and paid by credit card.
Then got an email from them as below.
Has anyone else struck this sort of thing before or am I behind the times with what is happening out there?!
OPTION 1: Confirm your place of employment by replying to this email with
your company name and reception phone number. We won't talk to them about
your purchase, only ask them if you are employed there.
or
OPTION 2: Call your bank and ask specifically for the 'authorisation code'
for this transaction (it is a 6 digit code), then send your answer by
replying to this email.
or
OPTION 3: Check your on-line bank statement and look for a unique reference
code (CL-_ _ _ _ _ _). This is information we have added to the transaction
which will read CL-_ _ _ _ _ _ followed by your purchase amount. Send your
answer by replying to this email. Note: The credit card transaction may take
up to 48 hours to show on your statement depending on your bank and how they
process your transaction.
Thank you for helping secure this credit card transaction. Your next
purchase will be processed immediately and WILL NOT REQUIRE YOU TO DO THIS
AGAIN.

1404824 2015-07-14 05:58:00 Never heard of anything like that before.

Generally you may get a couple of emails which show the progress Eg: order placed -- order shipped etc, but never for additional details.

Whats the company / Site ?

You may find its not actually in NZ but only a ordering point for some place overseas.

1404825 2015-07-14 06:04:00 This is Computer Lounge right? If so it's totally normal. Same thing happened to me and everyone else I know who's purchased from them. icow (15313)

1404827 2015-07-14 09:04:00 I suggest tell them to get stuffed. Greg (193)
1404828 2015-07-14 09:19:00 Best pay places like this, and really all NZ online sites, by bank deposit. Then they have to give you their details, much better than handing out your credit cards details to every Tom Dick and Harry. Terry Porritt (14)
1404829 2015-07-14 11:31:00 I like it, it shows they take credit card security seriously. And yes I vaguely remember doing it once the first time I used my credit card with them.
Would you really rather they just took the numbers and charged you over the inconvenience of a one time Identity check? If you feel it's too intrusive do what Terry suggested, your call.

1404830 2015-07-14 14:33:00 Agreed. One of the options requires you to send back information they gave you. Slight inconvenience? Maybe. But it's 2 minutes of your time. Not a big deal if you ask me. icow (15313)
1404831 2015-07-14 19:26:00 OPTION 2: Call your bank and ask specifically for the 'authorisation code'
for this transaction (it is a 6 digit code), then send your answer by
replying to this email.

I have had that one before.
However, I cancelled the transaction and bought elsewhere.
