1404426 2015-07-10 01:04:00 It seems like my monitor has bad capacitors - stays on for 2 seconds then goes off, won't turn on. Unplug it for 5 mins, and it might stay on for 2 seconds... It's 5 years old.

How much would capacitor replacement cost?

Worth it or should I just buy a new one?

1404427 2015-07-10 01:35:00 Just fixed my Samsung SyncMaster 226BW - 4 capacitors $14 & a piece of cake to do. B.M. (505)
1404428 2015-07-10 02:51:00 unless you do it yourself , not worth it. Unless it was a very high end, very large, expensive monitor

A new 22" is about $200
a used, excellent condition ex-lease 22" monitor $125 .
Those arnt even the cheapest prices.

Whats a good place to buy capacitors? Jaycar?

Never soldered anything before, seems reasonably straight forward though?

Guessed as much. Thanks.

1404430 2015-07-10 04:38:00 Element 14 are where I get them.
Did a Viewsonic vx2233w today, total cost of caps ~$8,
about 2 hours including dis-assembly and reassembly.

As BM says, easy enough, provided they are what is at fault.
Get a desoldering pump, they make the job a lot easier

Yep, got mine at Jaycar's but if you've never soldered anything before things can be a bit tricky, especially un-soldering the old ones without shorting things or overheating other components .

Getting some monitors apart can also cause you grief with little latches in the most obscure places .

What breed and model is it?

You need to start by pulling it apart before you need to worry about getting capacitors . ;)

1404432 2015-07-10 12:29:00 LG W2261VP.

It decided to start working again. This has happened 3 times in the past two weeks.
Not sure if I should pulling it apart just yet.

I was trying to disassemble a LG monitor a while ago, and it was almost impossible to pull it apart without breaking any of the plastic clips/latches!

Maybe, they are not designed to be repaired!
