1412216 2015-12-02 01:47:00 Panasonic Recorder to DVD disk - can this be done? If so how please? dianne pierce (13385)
1412217 2015-12-02 02:34:00 Probably not easily, you could feed the output to a capture device or dvd basd dvr and record it as it played in theory. A possible gotcha is there may be drm measures included in the broacast which could block it from recording.

These devices are designed for delayed playback and not for making permanent copies unfortunately

These machines dont all operate in the same exact way , there may not be one generic answer

Start here , download the manual & see if its possible & follow the instructions on how to do it on your machine
Looks like it may be do-able

1412220 2015-12-03 08:19:00 Assuming the unit is still functioning normally, there are 2 easy methods.

Method 1 assumes you are happy to use a PC as storage (ie store to removable HDD), rather than a DVD R (which will rot and die - burnt DVD discs don't last!)
Method 2 is to get the PVR to burn directly to DVD, which is simpler in the short term, and doomed to failure in the long term.

If it's a Panasonic PVR, then the method I use is via RAM discs.

The bind is that you need a DVD RAM drive in your PC. These cost much the same as a regular DVD RW drive. When I last checked (years ago) LG was the only manufactureer of DVD RAM drives.

Methods 1 & 2 both require that you convert the recorded item from it's digital broadcast format to an analogue (.mpg) equivalent. Quality losses are irrelevant unless you try to jamb 8 hours onto each 4GB DVD.

As for my PVR, find the title to copy/convert in Direct Navigator, press Options / Edit / DR file convertion.
Select whether to copy to DVD or as another file on the internal HDD.
Select the degree of compression (quality). SP mode is fine.

Myself, I copy to the internal HDD in SP mode, then copy that SP file to the DVD RAM disc, and then from that disc to my PC.

The DVD RAM will contain 3 files. 2 small ones which VLC Player will understand (they relate to edits / joins within the main file), and a much larger file which is the media you want. It will have a .VRO file extension. If you simply want an mpg file, just rename the .VRO to .mpg, and delete the smaller files.

This simple VRO to mpg trick will NOT work if the VRO contains more thsan one title, or a file that has been editted since it was converted from its native broadcast format.

Ensure all files are removed from the DVD RAM before it is returned to the PVR.

I could go on at length, but now is not the time.
