1412130 2015-11-29 20:00:00 Hi all.

Over this last week I have had trouble starting Windows 10 from the initial successful (pre password ) boot- no icons appear on the desk top, but I can access the internet through I/E or Facebook, but the likes of windows Live mail etc will not come up to be used.

---all that I have to do is reboot and everything operates normally, to a quick faultless W10 operation.

I don't have a clue what is causing this, as when rebooted Windows Live Mail comes up with--"did not shut down correctly", which means though I cannot use that program it is working, so a reboot tells me I had shutdown prematurely which of course is correct but----

1412131 2015-11-29 20:06:00 Maybe try the SFC /Scannonw trick Wainui has so helpfully taught us, click start, type CMD, right click the result for command prompt that comes up and choose run as administator, type sfc/scannow in and hit enter, see if that helps

also are you shutting down or putting it into standby normally?

1412132 2015-11-29 20:23:00 Hi Dugimoto,
Nah! tried "sleep" mode long ago, not for me
I am wondering if my 6 yearold+ hardware is packing a sad- pooter goes like a dream at all other times-but I have had Facebook icon on task bar start Facebook and 5 seconds later it vanishes, I uninstalled it but cannot seem to re install without getting into my account before I can reinstall

1412134 2015-11-29 23:00:00 Hi all, and Bevy121 ;-)

Dugimoto I ran the scan and came back from an appointment to find scannow had found and repaired a file-- and just now I fired up this "ancient" machine and it worked- so far anyway remains to be seen if tomorrow it does the same but it looks good, so thank you and indirectly Wainui Tech ;-)

Bevy 121 as I have said many times before, after install error problems corrected by Speedy Gonzales nearly four months ago I have never had as fast or reliable O S as W 10 -- I kid you not :-) You need not be paranoid.

Effie c

Thanks

1412135 2015-11-30 05:05:00 Ahh the joys of Win 10.... bugger that! :)

Funny, not my findings at all.

updated both of our desktops quite early in the piece (wasn't going to) both on almost identical dual core duo's socket 775 and both have a new lease of life with no errors once the clean install was done.

1412136 2015-12-01 02:32:00 This looks like the same problem my neighbor has. Obviously a W10 problem.

Will pass your fix on to him "digimodo"

1412137 2015-12-01 03:16:00 Not my fix really, just repeating info from other threads.
Not so much a windows 10 problem as a windows update problem, sometimes it doesn't finish properly for whatever reason.

Funny how often my user name gets spelt wrong, 3 times in this thread alone :)
Sadly it happens often with my actual name as well and it's even easier.
