1412049 2015-11-27 08:21:00 Hi All

Maryann & I have identical Asus F551M Laptops. Both originally W8.1. Both working ok. Then came W10. Maryann did first upgrade & when that finished we did mine.

Mine has worked well. Maryann's has given nothing but trouble. We had a local Techie look at it but if anything made it worse. I won't try & catalogue the problems.

What I want to know is can I run Recovery & reinstall W10 easily? What actually happens when one does this.

She still prefers W7 which is on a Toshiba laptop with a stuffed second battery. She uses this more than the Asus.

So...what shall I do? Thanks. PJ

Any reasonable Tech wouldn't leave it in that state unless told to stop work . (Had that happen a couple of times over the years - BUT I ALWAYS make sure its on the invoice that they told me to stop against advise and problems will occur - and get them to sign it) . No come back then ;)

Which leads to the second point .

Which recovery are you referring to ?
Is it recover using a backup or a refresh ?

Make sure all data is saved to another location . ( no matter what you do, if not already done)

If you wanted to reinstall W10, its a simple matter of wiping the drive clean with partitioning software, install W10, if it asks for a product key click Skip / do this later, it will automatically activate as long as you are connected to the internet AND it previously had W10 on the laptop . You may need to go to ASUS and download drivers for some of the hardware, ( last ASUS I DID) required the SMBus and intel management controllers downloaded and installed .

1412052 2015-11-28 07:05:00 Sooo...What DID we do. Put both comps side by side & compared them. Her date & time was wrong, easy fixed. Settings...we made hers the same as mine, don't ask me what I have forgotten already. However the speed was way up & the comp was behaving better. Still one or two minor things to sort but we will get there. Thanks. PJ Poppa John (284)
