Lately when I turn the PC on, it hangs for a long-time (at least 5 minutes) before it boots, nothing shows on the monitor before it boots. Red light at the front of the PC flashes as though it is working but no action.

If I press the reset button the PC then boots and I get a booting screen on the monitor and all is well from then on. What I want to know is the reason that this might occur.

I would also check that the hdd is the bootdisk in the BIOS. If it isnt, it can take longer to boot into windows

I found that if the dvd was the bootdisk on this, it would add an extra 30 secs to boot into windows
