528518 2007-02-27 03:52:00 Thanks for your reply stu. Im on orcon at the moment on their unlimited fs/fs plan. However they consider unlimited as 20gb per month , now since ive downloaded 341gb over the last 2 months they are kicking me off that plan lol. Just had a look at xnets plans but for unlimited they charge at $1 per gig. So say i downloaded 150gb on the month it would cost me 199.95 yikes. shrapz (11932)

Yes but if you are using that huge amount of data, you should expect to pay for it.
Currently other users would be subsidising your usage, and I bet orcon would be making a huge loss providing a service to you.
You could try telecoms Go Large when they start it back up, if you are wanting a badget priced unlimited plan. However they obviously traffic shape and restrict it, so they aren't making a huge loss on a single customer.

YOu could try slingshot, $5 for 10GB of additional data, and I think it is even cheaper if you buy more, however often it is very slow.

yikes! :waughh: :illogical

This is a good example for why NZ does not have any real Unlimited bandwidth plans & if there is an Unlimited it will either be as bad as Xtra' Go Large plan or have hidden limits.

A couple of things. First: YIKES! 341GB in 2 months is a lot of data.
Second: Where are you storing all this data that you are downloading and what exactly is it that is using that much data?

You can't expect to pay a set rate with any ISP and get that much data for no extra charge!

I have had a big download month, by my standards, this month and haven't even hit 40GB yet.

528522 2007-02-27 04:52:00 You have no right to expect an ISP to offer you unlimited data usage when you download that much. Data costs money and if you want 150gb+ a month then pay for it and stop being cheap. Pete O'Neil (6584)

Data costs money and if you want 150gb+ a month then pay for it and stop being cheap. No right? If an ISP offers me "unlimited data", then I'd expect unlimited data. So if I download 300GB+ in a month then who cares, I am paying for unlimited data. If I'm not allowed to download that much, then really it isn't the unlimited data I'm paying for, and the ISP is falsely advertising. These ISPs should be advertising their download limit rather than saying that their plans are unlimited, which they obviously are not. I don't think it's fair to tell someone to stop being so cheap and pay for the data they're downloading... they already are paying for that data - their plan is for unlimited (ie neverending, infinite etc.) data, so it's already been paid for by them.

528524 2007-02-27 05:51:00 But Orcon doesn't offer 'unlimited', and it never claimed to as far as I'm aware. Erayd (23)
528525 2007-02-27 06:02:00 I've used 133.4GB this month and my bill is around $186.Im prepared to pay for it

You might find I use alot of data but I pay for it so that means more money invsted to NZ broadband right?lol
