528403 2007-02-26 21:32:00 I'm planning to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, but I'm having trouble deciding if I should get the 64bit edition or the 32bit edition?

System specs are:

Athlon64 3000+ (1.8ghz)
1gig DDR400 RAM
80gig SATA HDD
120gig IDE HDD
256meg GeForce 6600 PCI-E Video Card

Feedback on this choice would be appreciated. :)

528404 2007-02-26 21:41:00 Just as long as whatever devices u have, Vista 32 or 64 bit has drivers for it, either will be OK. Speedy Gonzales (78)
528405 2007-02-26 22:07:00 TBH, neither, it's too early in the development cycle to adopt what is essentially unfinished software.

If you're currently using Win2k or XP, they're the safer option at the mo and still good to go for a while yet.

528406 2007-02-26 22:29:00 Why are you wanting Vista? Its not an upgrade - new hardware is an upgrade. pctek (84)
528407 2007-02-26 23:24:00 64bit if you wish to use more than 3gb ram SolMiester (139)
528408 2007-02-26 23:27:00 64bit if you wish to use more than 3gb ram

And if the mobo goes above 3-4 GB.

528409 2007-02-27 02:08:00 2gb is fine to run 64 unless u go into all those editing softwares otherwise its all sweet.. ppls once u try vista for a few days u wouldn't want to go back to xp AMD (11356)

Feedback on this choice would be appreciated. :)Vista 64 bit will only use digitally-signed drivers. It will not use unsigned drivers. See here (www.winsupersite.com).

If you're not gonna help him then why post? If he wants Vista he can get it. Why are you trying to turn everyone away from it? Seriously, it's really annoying now.

As for the question, I think in the long run it's safer to go for the 64bit version.
