528041 2007-02-25 09:14:00 Just came back from my friend's house helping him to connect up his wireless network, but unfortunately, failed to get it to work!

He has got a Dynalink RTA1320 ADSL2 router connected to his Linksys WRT54GL wireless router. Tried for more than an hour but could not get it to work, not even the direct Ethernet cable connected to the WRT54GL. The RTA1320 works fine when it is connected directly (Ethernet cable) to the laptop pc.

Has anyone ever successfully connected a Dynalink ADSL router to work with a Linksys Wireless router? Would really like to learn how to configure these two things to work together! As I've mentioned in my other posts, DLink's ADSL router works brilliantly with Linksys Wireless Routers. Configuration setup is a breeze for the Dlink & Linksys. Just for your info, my RTA770 is till sitting at a corner waiting to be connected to the Linksys Wireless router! :badpc:

Could someone with this experience be kind enough to share his/her expertise with us? :)

Cheers

528042 2007-02-25 09:23:00 I have had no problems with Dynalink ADSL routers and Linksys WAPs.

How are you connecting the two together?

528043 2007-02-25 09:37:00 I have had no problems with Dynalink ADSL routers and Linksys WAPs.

How are you connecting the two together?

Connection is rather straight forward, one end of the Ethernet cable connects to the RJ45 outlet (the only one) of RTA1320 and the other end connects to the RJ45 outlet marked 'INTERNET'. Since they both have the same IP address - 192.168.1.1, I changed one of them to 192.168.1.2 and have also tried the other way round.

This physical connection is exactly the same as the Dlink router (DSL-502T), and it works brilliantly with my Linksys router!

CYaBro, did you change any of the settings in either the Dynalink or the Linksys? If so, what are they that you changed?

528044 2007-02-25 10:45:00 Because of the way the 'INTERNET' port on the Linksys works (this would be the same on all routers that have an Internet / WAN port), the two units have to be in a different subnet. i.e. Make the Linksys 192.168.0.1 and the Dynalink 192.168.1.1

The way you have it the routing will not work.

You most likely got a D-Link to work because they usually have an IP of 10.1.1.1

528045 2007-02-25 20:18:00 I use an RTL1320 with a LInksys WRT54GX
The way I got it to work was to set the RTL1320 to 192.168.2.1 and the Linksys to 192.168.1.1
That way I could leave DHCP server enabled on both. I also left the firewalls enabled on both.
The RTL 1320 then connects to the internet connection on the Linksys (not an ethernet port).
I tried setting them to the same IP range (as you did) and could not get that to work.

528046 2007-02-25 21:01:00 It doesn't really matter what IP address you set each unit to as long as they are in a different subnet. CYaBro (73)
528047 2007-02-25 21:40:00 Thank you guys for sharing your experiences. I have got my Dynalink to work with the Linksys Wireless, at last. It's just GREAT :)

Actually, I did tried to change the Dynalink to 10.1.1.1 but somehow, it doesn't accept the changes. :( . Anyway, I'm very happy that they are all working fine now.

I really appreciate all your contributions. You guys in PressF1 are just fantastic!
