528000 2007-02-25 04:28:00 According to the last PCWorld we should all be updating to use a DVD writer as now they are so cheap at less than $70
Well all the local computer shops round here fall about laughing when I mention the $70 price. The cheapest I have found is about $120.
Can somebody put me wise as to where these devices are being sold at the price mentioned. Or did PCWorld get confused with American dollars.

Really? What a stupid reason to buy something - becuase its cheap. Of course if you actually need one then great.
If you don't though...............especially with Blu-ray and/or HD-DVD out now, why buy obsolete technology?

Local computer shops prices are usually quite a bit higher than you can get it from online companies such as ascent.co.nz . Local shops know it too, so if they didn't believe that they could be purchased for around $70, then they are lying to you. Do you want to buy from a business that doesn't tell you the truth? You go to a local shop for the customer service and one on one attention.

528008 2007-02-25 09:54:00 Plenty here in the $65-$85 range (www.pbtech.co.nz).

And you can rock on up to their store and buy one.

528009 2007-02-25 20:50:00 The Pioneer burner mentioned above by bonkiebonks is an excellent choice. I have one installed and I havent had any complaints.

Just make sure you feed it good quality dvd's and you won't have a problem.
