528413 2007-02-27 09:23:00 Personally I would go 32 bit cause there is a lot of programs that do not support 64 bit, a friend was having this same problem earlier tonight... and hardware support is better with 32 bit...

Just my :2cents:

Yeah but by 2008 MOST drivers and programs will work with 64bit. And having 32bit will leave you open to more security flaws.

528415 2007-02-27 23:56:00 If you're not gonna help him then why post? If he wants Vista he can get it. Why are you trying to turn everyone away from it? Seriously, it's really annoying now.

As for the question, I think in the long run it's safer to go for the 64bit version.

You have a strange definition of HELP Wolfy, i.e: Any advice that agrees with your ideal of what is correct.

I'll let you in to a little secret, that's not actually the definition of HELP. I, along with many, many others believe HELP has to have some benefit the helpee, sometimes the helpee does not know what that benefit may be, sometimes the helpee does not appreciate the HELP given because it does not fit in with their preconceived ideas. Sometimes HELP can take many different forms, provide many different answers and be derived from many different sources.

That's not to say that what you offer is not HELPFUL, just as my genuinely offered advice, is not UNHELPFUL. Can you understand that.

Why are you trying to turn everyone away from it? Seriously, it's really annoying now.

I'm sure you've read the posts, so I'm not going to re-apprise you of the issues if you refuse to see them. Nor am I going to bow to your request for censorship, just because you happen to hold a different, rather narrow viewpoint in IMO, to mine. If that makes you unhappy, tough, harden up <---- Free advice.

528418 2007-02-28 06:02:00 Yeah but by 2008 MOST drivers and programs will work with 64bit. And having 32bit will leave you open to more security flaws. That maybe so, but I don't see the point in not being able to run it properly ATM, I play a lot of games, none of them are 64 bit AFAIK, sure they MIGHT release patches (if possible) but else I would either have to give up the games or stay on 32 bit and be happy... and how can 32 bit be more susceptable to security flaws? A quote from PC Word.com forums "Last I heard, the 64 bit version of Vista was less secure than the 32 bit version." The_End_Of_Reality (334)
528419 2007-02-28 06:10:00 I'm planning to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, but I'm having trouble deciding if I should get the 64bit edition or the 32bit edition? If you get Vista Ultimate you get both 32bit and 64bit... or if you get Home Premium, apparently you can get the 64bit version (as well) for an extra fee (not sure how much, but I believe it's a small fee - maybe just for the media etc.)

I know you're a big Vista fan, but be careful, that looked a lot like you were trying to provoke Murray there

Murray P:
Good on ya for not biting back.

Nothing wrong with Murray offering a bit of advice. Sure its not AnswerA or AnswerB, but he's offering AnswerC. Differing viewpoints is what makes PressF1 so great, if you can learn to agree to disagree.

In answer to the question, I would advise 32-bit hands-down.
Sure by 2008 more drivers will have been written or whatever, but thing is right now we're in early 2007 and my money says you'll have formatted your PC by then and can decide again closer to 'that' time. Not enough programs are written in 64-bit to offer a real advantage right now, plus driver support is nowhere near on the same par as 32-bit.

If you're going Vista, go 32-bit for at least another year or so :)
