528072 2007-02-26 01:14:00 I thank you all for confirming (and am convinced) that flashing the BIOS has got nothing to do with the HDD. There is no need for me to reformat my HDD :)

One more issue, the Asus Tech said that the MBR of my HDD is damaged; how do I check whether the MBR is damaged or not? As I said earlier, there is no problem with my laptop other than the WinFlash issue. Is there a utility progam to check the Master Boot Record?

Speedy, the Asus tech has flashed the latest BIOS for me, I have ver 3.00. I am concerning about the need for updating the BIOS in the future.

Cheers

528073 2007-02-26 01:24:00 OK, well u dont have to flash it coz there isnt a later version yet (after 300).

Well as already stated, you'll have to either get a usb flash disk or usb floppy.

Thats if the bios supports booting from a USB floppy, or a USB flash disk.

528074 2007-02-26 01:27:00 if the mbr is damaged it wont boot end of story.....if it boots theres no problem......if not then 'fixmbr' from recovery console should cure it... drcspy (146)
528075 2007-02-26 02:23:00 Laptop BIOSes aren't updated all that much anyway, you really shouldn't need to update it. The main reason they release BIOS updates for desktop motherboards is because the stuff you plug into them is always evolving. A laptop is generally stuck with what it came with.

But yeah, never had to format a hard drive to flash a BIOS.

528077 2007-02-26 04:14:00 What ASUS tech?
Did you ring ASUS overseas?
Did you ring the NZ agents for ASUS?

Or did you just ring some idiot in a shop?

You don't even need to flash the BIOS unless there is some problem requiring a BIOS update .
Don't fix it if it isn't broken .

Sounds like there is nothing at all wrong with this PC and thisn idiot is so desperate for some work he is inventing problems .
