528029 2007-02-26 00:39:00 Well maybe it is, you can still transfer MP3's with other programs anyway.

So whats the point in doing it in the first place.

And I spose if u use Itunes for songs u brought, that maybe the case.

If u rip then transfer the MP3's I doubt it would matter what PC you connected an Ipod to.

ok, you have lost me....

528030 2007-02-26 00:52:00 Well what I'm saying is if u use Itunes and buy songs online obviously they're protected (I dunno I don't buy them online). So they (the MP3's) most probably wont be able to be transfered to anything / anywhere else).

I could be wrong, since as above I've never brought songs / DRM whatever you call it files.

And from what I can see in Itunes, you cant transfer from it to somewhere else, only songs to it, then to an Ipod.

BUT, if u rip songs off cd, and then use something like Winamp, if u use the plugin u can transfer from the hdd to the Ipod and vice versa (from the Ipod back to a hdd - to a folder).

As long as u or anyone else has say Winamp and the Winamp Ipod plugin.

Even tho Winamp does support portable media players (like Ipods, creartive players), the Mlipod plugin (which is the plugin for an Ipod), has a few extras in it.

songs on an iPod are a complete or part mirror of your itunes library. Delete a song from itunes and it deletes from ipod next time synced. I do not know if this is the case using other software.

Once I have finished ripping a CD and have tranferred the files to the player, I just delete the iTunes playlist.

All you seem to get with Apple is hype, high prices, glitz and complications.

528035 2007-02-26 08:00:00 No need for plugins or anything with WinAmp!

If you open the Media Library window of WinAmp5 you'll see on the left-hand side there is your iPod under Portable Devices
From there you can search for XYZ if you want, then right-click it and one of the options will be to copy it to Local Media Folder (Defaults to c:\My Music I believe).

No plugins, no extra software if you're already using winamp, no fuss, no mucking around, it renames everything based off the ID3 tags... It just works :)

Also works for copying video files to / from it

528036 2007-02-26 20:12:00 Yup, I know Winamp doesnt need any plugins as it supports Ipods and media players.

Only diff I think is the other plugin lets u transfer back to the hdd, (this maybe the same as copying to local media in the normal Winamp), and it lets u format from within Winamp.

528037 2007-02-26 20:29:00 Yeah you dont need a plugin to do it, both ways... Chilling_Silence (9)
