528010 2007-02-26 21:34:00 Depends on where you live I suppose. PBTech in Hamilton, Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin have OEM drives for under $80 - ASUS, Lite-on and Pioneer. Dick Smiths have retail packed drives (Pioneer) for $90 and even Forlongs, a large department retail store in Hamilton have retail packed drives with software included for under $100. andy (473)
528011 2007-02-26 22:32:00 Ahhhhh, lets see now.............. maybe because blu-ray and hd-dvd writers/players are EXPENSIVE, as are the disks.

Yes until they go down as they always do. And you missed my other bit:

Of course if you actually need one then great.
If you don't though...............

528012 2007-02-26 22:45:00 I swear by the LG range of DVD writers.
They cater to all the formats +R, -R, +RW, -RW, RAM.

Mine has burnt heaps without a hitch, and they currently can be had for well under $80

Finding decent, reliable MEDIA however is still a major issue.

528013 2007-02-27 03:40:00 I got a DVD-RAM drive for $77 from Ascent - no problems so far. pcuser42 (130)
528014 2007-02-27 04:00:00 Yup this supports DVD-ram, altho I havent used it for that yet.

And by the looks of it one of the latest burners (ASUS) supports 12x writing/read to DVD-ram and the other formats, as well as lightscribe.

A bit more than $70 - closer to $100. Altho other shops maybe cheaper.
