528020 2007-02-25 22:17:00 Winamp supports Ipod and other media players by default now.

And this plugin (sourceforge.net) gives u a few more options.

What do u mean the itune library portable backup is phut?

Where are the original MP3's?? Did u delete them?

528021 2007-02-25 22:52:00 If Windows see's the ipod, you should have a drive letter for it in explorer, can you not simply copy and paste? SolMiester (139)

Yup u do get a letter, once an Ipod is plugged in, but no with MP3's you cant just copy and paste and expect it to work. It wont.

It may work when an Ipod is connected. BUT, you wont see it under songs if u disconnect the Ipod.

You can copy/cut and paste text files and put them in whatever folder tho.

When disk mode is enabled (thru Itunes).

Errrr, when connected is what I mean.....if windows see's the ipod, associates a drive letter, then you can surely just browse, copy and paste.

If NOT, then I would imagine its 1 way traffic to prevent piracy.

528024 2007-02-25 23:06:00 It might be the folder/s and format/way MP3's are transferred to an Ipod, when u use Itunes or Winamp.

Not anything like preventing piracy. As u don't have to use Itunes or buy songs thru Itunes to use them on an Ipod.

528025 2007-02-25 23:18:00 well you can still find the mp3's in the ipod using window's search function and then move them across to the hd, but ipod actually renames the songs to 4-letter files ie. ABCD.mp3, which means that after transferring, you would have to rename each file and i think you have to do the tag again too...big task if you've got thousands of songs...

there are 3rd party softwares which allows you to transfer songs from the ipod along with the tag and details though..

528026 2007-02-25 23:30:00 Ckeck out ilounge.com for software to copy from ipod to pc. The ipod keeps the somgs in a hidden partition, this is to stop piracy plod (107)

Thats got nothing to do with preventing piracy. I'm talking about using ipos to transfer the music around your mates!

I set an ipod up for a friend recently, it didnt have any music on it at the time, so didnt get to see the folder of music on the ipod, however every other folder was there.

I remember back in 2000, when I got my Rio Riot, I was disappointed because the device didnt allow you to copy back down from the device to another PC. I think the Creative Nomad did though.

EDIT - Plods got the answer......

528028 2007-02-26 00:08:00 Well maybe it is, you can still transfer MP3's with other programs anyway.

So whats the point in doing it in the first place.

And I spose if u use Itunes for songs u brought, that maybe the case.

If u rip then transfer the MP3's I doubt it would matter what PC you connected an Ipod to.
