527997 2007-02-25 08:00:00 Mcafee has just popped up saying it has found the above trojan and has cleaned it. Is this a real bad trojan? I'm going to be formatting my current hard-drive once I can find another one to back everything up to first.

Will it be OK to leave everything as is for a week or two until I get around to formatting it or should I do it sooner? Will it be OK aslong as I unplug the modem when not in use etc so other people can't access the line (if thats how it works - im not too sure).

I don't know where this came from, I wasn't even using the computer at the time and only had one (very) legit website open at the time; so probably possible its already been on the PC for a while.

cheers

527998 2007-02-25 09:21:00 If McAfee says it's cleaned it and you trust it to do what it's meant to do then just get on with it and stop worrying. I'd check this AXI Downloader Trojan through yr favorite search engine, see what you can find out for yourself. You could get HiJack This and try that if you're worried but as I say if yr AV says all clear (though it's a trojan not a virus) don't worry.

As for stopping people using yr comp for the net before you get around to reformatting yes you could unplug the modem but are you confident the others won't simply plug it back in again? Whether you've got dial up or always-on.

Like I said, sounds like you're all cleaned up anyway, but I'd still have a search for the trojan - might be worse than global warming.:horrified

527999 2007-02-25 10:12:00 sweet, just not sure where it came from and cant find much solid information about it on the net. and as for the people using the computer, I meant people connecting to the computer / phone line remotely - so no way they can plug it back in. littledevil (11823)
