528982 2007-03-01 01:46:00 Hi, I've been given half a dozen new DVD+RW discs. On myXP pro: I have Nero and DeepBurn. When I put a DVD in the machine and go to My computer>D drive>properties the disc is shown to be full; and I cannot burn my photos and backups.
I'm told new discs need formating (as in hard and floppies and instructions abound) but I can find no help with DVDs. So once again I seek the help of the good people of Press F1.
Cheers Sarum

528983 2007-03-01 01:50:00 Err that depends on whether the photos you're going to burn are going to be played on a standalone DVD player.

In which case, no you dont format it. Same goes for cdr's and DVD-r's.

But if you want to view them on a PC then formatting it shouldn't be a prob.

There's a format option in Nero, XP wont format them as it doesnt support burning to or formatting DVD's

528984 2007-03-01 02:01:00 I have to ask...

Have you got a DVD-RW drive?

528985 2007-03-01 21:31:00 Thankyou both for your replies. Yes, the DVD slot has 'RW' on it and the photos are intended for computer display. And the good news is that I've burnt photos on to a disc though I'm not sure of quite how I did it. I didn't find the format thing in Nero and the disc, though far from full still indicates 'full' on pressing 'properties'. Thankyou very much for your help; now I can do it I'm sure it wont take me long to find out how I got there.
Thanks again Sarum

528986 2007-03-01 21:37:00 Dont reply on properties on a blank dvd.

XP most probably doesn't know what is and isn't on it. Since XP doesnt support burning to dvd anyway.
