528940 2007-02-28 22:31:00 I am submitting this question on behalf of a friend.

His problem is when playing certain games, the pc will freeze, the screen will go blurred 'barcode' like, with smeared colours, the speakers will emit a buzz, and the video card itself will deliver a high pitch hum.

He has had this problem since buying his pc.

The system is AMD, on a gigabyte board, an albatron 7600GT video card, 1gb ADATA RAM, Seagate 250gb HDD.

I tried the video card on my pc, on the same drivers and it worked fine. We updated his motherboard BIOS and it still has the problem.

I actually think this is a Motherboard problem, or even a RAM problem - has anyone come across something like this before?

I will try get a hold of a copy of GoldMemory and run a test overnight on the PC and see if the memory passes.

If it does, it must be the motherboard. I would try my card in there (Gigabyte 7900GS) but it doesnt sound good when the problem occurs, I'd rather not risk damaging my card.

Any Ideas??

Follow advice given in previous reply. Do NOT mess about with it, take it back.

How could it be that it does strange things in his system, yet runs sweet as in mine?

528944 2007-03-02 00:18:00 Well I got my friend to run Memtest overnight.

He emailed me the result thismorning -

"I ran the mem test over night last night and when I got up this morning it had.. well I think it is 26 pass 2 error, but there is another one below it highlighted in red saying

Tst Pass Failing address Good bad err-bit Count chan
5 14 000009dcb24 - 9.7mb 01185f5b 41185f5b 40000000 2

"

The layout of it is a bit bung, but you can see any error messages of interest in it.

Seems that it was a RAM problem, though would Memtest test video RAM aswell as system RAM?

I have got him to email that all to the company he bought it from, it should be sufficient proof his memory is failing.

I assume it is the system RAM as the card worked perfect on my system.

So hopefully this fixes the problem, I will try to remember to post once he gets his replacement.

528945 2007-03-02 07:08:00 That is a not unheard of problem for RAM.

Mem test does not test video RAM

Running a game does use parts of your RAM that usually never gets used. It is safe to say thee RAM is dead
