| 528844 | 2007-02-28 01:38:00 | I have just been asked to help a neighbour having problems putting photos on her laptop. I suspect that she may have a slow computer, but the program I used to use for testing, has vanished out of the box where I kept it! I cannot even remember its name but it gave a fast overview and description of any computer and compared its speed with other computers. It could be carried on its own CD. I tried googling to see if there was anything similar but one I tried took ages to do anything and then crashed. It had to be installed on the computer being tested. I just didn't find anything good or even something to jog my memory about the name of the old program. I may have got it originally from one of the PCWorld disks Any suggestions please. Tom |

I thought I had made it plain what I wanted. Obviously didn't. The program I had, would also tell you what the read and write speeds were to the hard drive and finally show it on a spreadsheet comparing it to other computers. If my memory serves me right (rarely does these days) it could even be put on a 3.5 floppy - I could go round and try various computers in Noel Leemings for instance. I am going to check the old PCWorld CDs to see if I recognise it - and if I do find it again I will come back to this forum so others can learn. Tom |

If so, some more names that might ring a bell with him - AIDA 32? It became Everest Home Edition (somebody's suggestion), I think. Belarc Advisor - a handy application, though won't do as much in-depth stuff with advice. Edit: Uh oh - now I see I didn't check his follow-up post well enough. Non-installed... hmm.. beyond my expertise level, I'm afraid. |
