I have wanted to set up my own ftp, but I wasn't sure how I would go about it, would you have to contact your ISP to set it up? Cheers OK, this is my setup: Linksys WAG54G ADSL wireless modem/router with DynDNS account so that as long as the modem is up and running my domain (freen DynDNS one) is able to be gotten to and port 21 (FTP) routed to the server. An old PC that I was given after building a new one for a friend running Debian Etch with ProFTPd ftp server and Webmin to configure it all All at $0 cost :D Nope, no need to tell them, it is probably even better that you don't cause they hate people running servers... |

Very easy, no special software required, nothing to set up except registering an account. Putting 'send large files' into Google, will return lots of hits, some sites offer a limited free service, some are pay sites. |

It would be best to start your own thread I guess you are running Windows? if so, I am not sure what software you need, as above I run a Linux server Although on furthur inverstigation Dave said IIS has the option and he is right (for XP Pro atleast, not sure about any others) you need to install it, go control panel>add or remove progrms>add or remove Win compontents, you might need your XP CD too... I have just installed it and looking into it EDIT upon looking into IIS FTP server, it is VERY basic... |

| 529214 | 2007-03-03 09:56:00 | Thanks Dave but the comp I want to set it up on is XP home. I tried using Xlight ftp server, I did manage to setup ftp, but only for my Lan, I guess I have to forward the ports in my router to access it from the net. Cheers |
