529011 2007-03-01 03:31:00 AFAIK, you don't need to edit the registry. You just delete the Windows Icon Cache (in the WIndows/WNNT directory somewhere) and reboot. Windows then rebuilds the cache on start up.

Even that means little to me. A wee bit more detail on how to find something would help. Is THAT okay?

No it's not ok, I can't even find my own icon cache

We'd better not try to cross the road together.

529014 2007-03-01 03:47:00 Sh-ite!!!

Go C:\ Documents & Settings/Your User Name/Local Settings/Application Data/iconcache.db

Delete the iconecache.db and reboot.

Edit: Still can't find mine, though I use Win2k, it should be pretty much the same as XP????

Try changing your screen colour depth under Display properties and then change it back again. You can also rebuilt the icon cache using MS PowerToys for XP with TweakUI.exe (www.microsoft.com). Once you install TweakUI, you can access the application from the icon in the Control Panel. Somewhere in the menus will be an option to rebuild the icon cache.

[edit]Find that option in TweakUI here:
Click the "Repair" link, then in the right pane of Tweak UI, click on the pull-down and choose "Rebuild Icons". Click "Repair Now", then "OK" to close the dialog box.

TweakUi is what stuffed up the icons.

Ive also already tried changing the colour.

I will try deleting the file that Murray suggested and see if it works.

EDIT: Couldn't find the file either, Murray.

529017 2007-03-01 05:16:00 Hi WolfForest22, it actually kind of just looks like your start menu is set to "Classic view"??? Worth checking i guess. As tweakui may have changed it? Dont know as haven't used it in awhile.

Right mouse click on the Start Menu - then "Properties" - Click on the "Start Menu" Tab at the top - now make sure the dot is in "start menu" not "classic start menu" - apply at bottom.

Yes I prefer it as classic, but the start menu isn't the point. If you look at all the icons they look like they either extremely ugly or from an old version of Windows.

529019 2007-03-01 05:31:00 Right mouse on the desktop / properties/settings, how many colours does it show? And whats the resolution set to?

Under colour quality. And what options are there, and whats it on now?

It looks like its 8 bit or something whereas it should be 16 or 32 bit colour.

529020 2007-03-01 05:35:00 Thank you Speedy. It was set to 16 and changing it to 32 fixed it. --Wolf-- (128)
