2007-03-04 07:22:00 | Hi, I have both IE 7 and Firefox. I run ADSL Broadband. Both these programs work for 6 10 mins then will not display any web pages. Outlook express is not affected. Have Nortons 2007, adware and Spybot all uptodate and show no infections. Took computer to friends place and used there broadband connection and same thing happened. Uninstalled Nortons same result. Xtra think something is blocking port 80? XP Firewall turned off and zone alarm uninstalled. Any Ideas or suggestions on how to debug further. Thanks,

2007-03-04 07:36:00 | Zone Alarm..... Follow the instructions in this post (www.pressf1.co.nz) to removed ZA completely as that could be the cause of your problems.

2007-03-04 07:38:00 | Do you get "page not found" or "404" errors or something different? What happens if you try to ping a web site URL and IP address? Go Start > Run. Enter in cmd and click OK. Type in and hit enter: ping google.co.nz then: ping 64.233.161.104 Do any (or both) of those give timeout errors?

2007-03-04 07:54:00 | Make sure you also ping the numeric IP 64.233.161.104 as well. Trying to rule out DNS (domain name server) issues. | Jen (38) | |
2007-03-04 07:59:00 | ZA and Nortons (if u mean Norton / Symantec Internet Security) have a tendency to turn off their proxy service in services. Well 2003 used to, it doesn't look like anything has changed with the current versions. Which will stop u browsing the net with any browser, it doesnt matter what it is, until u restart the service. And as u said everything else (like email, programs that update without using a browser still work). Which as stated in the post Foxy posted the reason I gave up on both of them.

2007-03-04 08:07:00 | Jen, Before Broswer stops working. Both Pings work. After then google.co.nz results from 66.102.7.104 ? return O.K. But Ping numbers you gave results in 4 Time outs !

2007-03-04 08:23:00 | FoxyMX, Speedy Gonzales. Looks abit scary but looks as if I may have to try it in a few days after I get my head around instructions. Anyway to turn on "Proxy services in services"

2007-03-04 08:50:00 | well if you have uninstall ZA and nortons completely and its still doing it then obviously its not either of them. what adsl modem do you have? it could simply be an adsl modem packing a sad. when you tried it on mates adsl how did you connect it?

2007-03-04 08:50:00 | It'll only be there if Nortons or ZA is still installed . Under control panel / admin tools / services . Under proxy service, I think its called . if u want to try it if proxy service is still there dbl click on it, go to the recovery tab, change all 3 to restart the service . Then click on the general tab and click on start .
