| 529703 | 2007-03-04 06:02:00 | I purchased a DSE combo FM antenna and powered rabbits ears a few weeks ago while I wait for freeview . . . I think they cost about 49 . 00 . I live centralish Aucks, reception on TV2, 3, C4 and Prime is excellent, as good as any roof aerial, FM radio is also good but not quite perfect . TV1 is crap of course . I can also get some unusual programs but that requires me to keep my tongue in contact with one of the ears :nerd: I don't know whether they are worth $50 . 00 as I haven't tried the standard rabbits ears, but I think DSE had roof aerials for about $79 . 00 on special |

If the signal is poor (snowy) then all the amplified ones will do is amplify the poor signal, so the snowy signal is at a higher level, but still just as snowy. When you need a real outside antenna, you need a real outside antenna. |

I purchased a DSE signal amplifier, and it works really well when plugged through my outside aerial, and it does improve the signal alot. |

| 529707 | 2007-03-04 09:44:00 | the snow you see is actually noise. the amp/booster boosts everything, signal + noise. there is a minimum signal you need before boosting is worthwhile otherwise you get an increase in signal but still a crap picture. the old crap in = crap out principle rabbit ears gets crap signal even in most of auck. some places in west auckland can get good signal off rabbit ears, but then again you can get picture using a wet piece of chewing gum ;) (before you all chime in saying your pics are good off rabbit ears, what is considered technically a good signal is not necessarily your idea of good picture.) |
