2007-03-05 08:52:00 | Cost still is a factor here; just not as much as it was $1200 ago. So how does a mouse work with dual monitors? Does it move the same on both screens or do you switch it over or what? And on a side note, in conclusion to the topic question, to keep it short, majority says upgrade the 1gb Ram to 2gb and add on the silverstone PSU? Sounds fair and simple to me. I will leave the speakers for now. I still might consider getting 4 + bass and a cheap soundcard but right now that's not important. sounds about right the mouse will carry onto the other screen as per usual, but this doesn't seem to be the case while gaming or using full screen apps, so you can't accidentally minimize it. the only adjustment you have to make is closing windows on the left monitor, as the mouse 'runs away' onto the other screen as most ppl normally just slam the mouse into the corner and come in a bit to hit the button. after a day you get used to it. Dual monitors are best for work production, not gaming, though there are games that support 2 and even 3 monitors. I cheaper and better idea in my view would be to get a bigger monitor, you are ALWAYS looking at the monitor, so something like Dell's 22', 24" LCD would be fab! as i said before, having dual monitors is just plain useful. 90% of non-nerdy people using my pc quickly adjust and ask "why don't all computers have this?". all i can really answer it "i guess because people dont realise you can do it and how good it is". while dual monitors may be most common in some working situations, they are just as useful at home. simplest example would be someone browsing whilst on msn (or irc or gaming or whatever). they can both surf the web fitting everything in the maximised window and keep an eye on conversations without constantly minimising windows. edit: it's up there with tabbed browsing, but more versatile

2007-03-05 09:37:00 | Motorbyclist - I use dual LCD's at work but dont play slow games where I can browse and play a game at the same time. 1 bigger screen would be my recommendation at home.

2007-03-05 10:01:00 | Dual monitors either 1 bigger and 1 smaller or 2 big ones are ideal for DV production or things like Photoshop retouch jobs where you have the image on 1 screen and your assortment of tool pallets on the other screen. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-03-05 11:03:00 | From my last post until now, almost everything that's been said means nothing or little to me. I wouldn't have a clue how to overclock, so I'll pass on that. What's the point of dual monitors other than it looking cool on your desk? What can you set the other one up to display? To sum it up, can someone find me a good 2gb ram (or 2x 1gb) and a good dx10 256mb videocard. I am considering upgrading the speakers too, so that there's 4 speakers and a bass. Will this mean I will need a soundcard and will a cheap one do? If you can stretch your budget further I would increase the ram to 2GB and get a good PSU as previously stated. The 7600GT is the best graphics card for your budget. A separate sound card for average use is not going to make any difference. The onboard sound will support 7.1 channel sound from memory and will do a good enough job to boot (IMHO). By all means go for a bigger LCD monitor if you wish and can afford it but remember another 19" monitor the same as you have will cost about another $450. Just how far can you stretch your budget? It's cahnged somewhat since we first ventured down this path!! :2cents:

2007-03-05 19:02:00 | Damn Australians!!! Lol j/k.. Yeah my conclusion post said I'ld like to upgrade to the 2gb ram and get the Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS ATX12V 500W Power Supply Retail. The whole budget thing is kinda getting outa hand now, but hey, who cares? I'll thank myself in the future. Well the whole dual monitor thing sounds interesting - at the moment I have got down a 19" widescreen. What about a small, cheap 15" LCD? How much would that cost? And so basically your mouse is only on one screen at a time, but moves across? So it's like having two windows "restored down" on one screen, except both are maximized. Sounds pretty cool, because I'm always one to have to switch back and forth between windows to copy/read/paste etc stuff. Anyway's heres the parts I'm looking for on qmb (just so I know the price): 2gb Ram (Or are we gonna do 2x 1gb ram, Tukapa?) Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS ATX12V 500W Power Supply Retail Cheap 15" LCD screen So could someone find these on qmb and give me the names and prices please. And Tukapa, if you have time could you do a price summary of everything up until now. You might not of noticed but I took the floppy drive out and got rid of the keyboard/mouse as I'm getting the Logitech MX Revolution mouse (qmb) and the Eclipse keyboard (Gamestation or somewhere else) Also, if I get an extra monitor how much will that add onto freight?

2007-03-05 23:49:00 | Hi, I have had 1 big and 1 small LCD and it just frustrated me that they weren't the same size!, especially when you scan that wide wallpaper accross both screens for a very cool look. If you do get dual moniotrs, use 'Ultramon', its free and handles multiple monitors better than most programmes including Nvidia own software. 2 x 19 LCD will cost more than 1 22" Dell which I believe would be much better, trust me!

All I need now is the money! And a nice corner desk would look good . . . . I'll see what Tukapa can come up with in terms of the overall price for things and then decide on the dual monitors as it is way up there in the want list, rather than the need list . |

2007-03-06 02:58:00 | Also, can anyone post a pic or describe their setup if they have two monitors? Do you have them right next to each other or do you have to turn your head or what? I'm thinking of getting a desk very similar to this: www.everythingofficefurniture.com And I don't know where to put the second monitor if I get one.
