529934 2007-03-04 07:16:00 I'll ignore the first comment :P

Computer will be used for everything really. Bit of gaming, music, internet, and anything else a computer can do.

Bit light on the vid card? What's that suppose to mean? Upgrade to 512?

After talking to someone else, I think I might add another 1gb of Ram and change the PSU to Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS ATX12V 500W Power Supply (As suggested by someone else)
Can't they change the fans over into the case I want?
Also I have no idea how to overclock.

Well I had a hand building this up and QMB was suggested and they seem fairly cheap so why not? And if you're referring to the thread on this forum then well...everyone has their opinion.

Go a later model, look for speed and features rather than just MB. I'm a bit rusty on vid cards, someone else can probably give you a better idea of the best bang for buck.

I doubt you need a 500W power supply, especially if you go for a Silverstone. Unless you plan to hang a hell of a lot off it, like dual CRT monitors.

What fans? Are you referring to the PSU, it's not relevant if QMB are willing to supply a PSUless case.

Re clocking. OK, but if you're at all curious, the E4300 apparently clocks like a cut cat and does it easily (over 3.0GHz), which equates to a very cheap CPU upgrade.

The QMB biz has been going on for a lot longer than the recent thread (which I haven't read). People were griping about them a couple of years ago and nothing has really changed. If you're handy to their base, it could make a difference if you can eyeball them if/when things go wrong. IIRC, they're parallel importers, which is not necessarily bad, until they give you the old manufacturers warranty run around if it all turns to custard.

Entirely up to you, of course.

529935 2007-03-04 07:25:00 Video Cards have features other than mb? Wow...Lol j/k but I always knew them to be 128, 256, 512, 1gb etc.

Well it did cross my mind to run two lcds (Is that even worse than crts) off it...Better safe than sorry though, right?

I'll have to talk to someone about the psu/case issue.

Clocking aye....what are the disadvantages/advantages of doing it and how do you do it?

Well there is another reason why I'm going with QMB but it's not really important. As well as the fact I don't really know of any other places.

529936 2007-03-04 07:41:00 Bits are important to video cards, though no doubt the GT is up there anyway (is the 7600 DX10 compatible. There, that's how far out of date I am).

No, LCDs consume far less power than a CRT. 2 wouldn't even approach the consumption of a single CRT.

The thing is, all power supplies are not made equal. Your average crappy large PSU will be far less efficient than a your, supposedly, smaller capacity quality PSU. Have a read of Power Supply Fundamentals (www.silentpcreview.com). Then go here to calculate what you require. (www.extreme.outervision.com)

529937 2007-03-04 07:48:00 So is the card I have listed DX10? Whoa, didn't think it was that good.

Will have a look at those links, thanks.

529938 2007-03-04 07:54:00 What I should have said was; "is the 7600 even DX10 compatible" .

I take it you'll be sticking with Vista. If so, you might want a hdcp and DX10 compatible card, otherwise you'll have DRM with the former and not get the best out of your DX10 games with the latter. Not that you'll be getting a whole heap of DX10 games in a hurry, which kind of begs the question, why Vista? Ok, I shut about stinky Vista and how awfully smelly it is
Murray P (44)
529939 2007-03-04 08:06:00 why Vista

Why not? Wait...don't answer that - I've already heard it.

I just looked on QMB and couldn't find any DX10 cards, care to take a look?
--Wolf-- (128)
529940 2007-03-04 09:36:00 ok, couldn't be bothered reading the whole thread, but another gig of ram will make a noteable difference while gaming, ESPECIALLY as you have for some reason opted to buy vista.

the video card is fine unless you have money to burn, so in order of actual benefit: another gig of ram, faster ram ie 800mhz or overclockable to such, xp and video card

sound cards aren't that important, but are nice to have. if you're on a budget don't bother, get the faster cpu/gpu/ram/whatever

529941 2007-03-04 18:51:00 Can you find me a faster 2x 1gb ram (or simply 2gb) on qmb? I dunno what to look for. Also recommend me a nice video card (not too nice though) on qmb.

Will a $55 soundcard make a noticeable difference?
--Wolf-- (128)
529942 2007-03-04 20:39:00 No, LCDs consume far less power than a CRT. 2 wouldn't even approach the consumption of a single CRT.Since when did a monitor draw its power from the computer power supply Murray? They effectively draw nothing but video drive signals from the PC.

Unless the world has been turned upside down when I wasn't looking?

Cheers
