529593 2007-03-03 05:18:00 I see that Belarc doesn't recognise the Linux (ext3) partitions on my computer. I'm quite disappointed. rumpty (2863)
529594 2007-03-03 05:29:00 TY both Jen, Graham, beama and TGoddard . . . I will get that error mssg asap .

The QTPart only showed three drives . . . one of them was not the actual optical on which the distro was mounted for the Live or Install .

It had hda, hdb, hdc . . . and it wasn't clear . . because when I clicked on the hdc or optical, the other optical drive drawer snapped open and closed again real fast .

We have two opticals (cd-rw, cd-rom), two hdds (1-40g; 1-200g) and a flop on this box .

Right after that . . I got two error messages, one said something had failed, and the other had a long list of stuff that for the life of me I could not copy/paste anywhere as I didn't have any sort of system running yet, although I could highlight it well enough . . . . just couldn't do anything with it from there .

I assume that it only saw hda as my NT boot or systems partition, and NT calls that one C Drive .

Hdb had to be the 200g, but Linux only saw it as one big partition/drive and I know it has three partitions .

NOW . . . when I got back to XP and the manager I saw that 18 . 2g had been set aside for (something?) Linux maybe? . . . . as this 18 . 2 was now out of the lineup but it said it was HEALTHY .

That 18 . 2 partition was out of normal as I didn't think anything had happened yet to accomplish that .

The C drive was listed as SYSTEM in the NT Manager, so I can assume it IS the NT boot area drive . . . . right?

I will try again soon . . but right this moment, I have come off the mountain (Chihuahua Valley) and am back in San Jacinto . . about 56 miles away . Next visit . . on next Friday (Sat to you) I get to try it all again .

It's nice to have this sort of support from youse guys . . thanks again . . and watch this space . . . we will open this again . . . unless some miracle happens and it goes right next time .

Gonna go cipher some Hieroglyphics now . . . . Chinese Algebra is easy compared to this .

529595 2007-03-03 06:29:00 Have you decided on Jen's Sorry-I-got-your-name-confused-with-that-other-woman-present yet?

Chokkies are nice.

529596 2007-03-04 01:19:00 But which one gets the chocolates? Perhaps to be safe Joe should make amends to both. Graham L (2)
529597 2007-03-04 01:28:00 No, Jen deserves the prezzie.

I got the flattery.

529598 2007-03-04 04:00:00 Take a screenshot of what QTParted is showing for your drives. In KDE if you go ALT-F2 and enter in ksnapshot it will open a screenshot application. Jen (38)

Even if I haven't gotten the distro installed?

I'll try that . . but I'll also have my new handy Kodak cam with me next time too to take a real pix!~

. . . then again, there's always paper and pencil . . :dogeye:

(I didn't want to slight anyone by name or accident . . . . I just had part-timer's disease again . . . a little like all-timer's, but half as bad . I have passed some-timer's disease already)

:badpc:

529600 2007-03-04 04:21:00 It doesn't matter if you are just running from a LiveCD. Take the snapshot and save it to the desktop (gets held in memory). Then upload it to ImageF1. Jen (38)
529601 2007-03-04 05:27:00 TY..will try that soon...that computer right now is about 56 miles away...but I am gonna be there Friday to work on it then... SurferJoe46 (51)
