2007-03-04 04:49:00 | recently read an interesting article re router security that suggested the password should be changed from the default - my question is, "where in the computer do i find the router?" | jayal (1291) | |
2007-03-04 05:27:00 | The router isn't in your computer. If you have broadband then you will have a router - it's external ;) If you have a router then open up IE, go to 10.1.1.1, then into settings and change your password.

2007-03-04 05:51:00 | And if that number doesn't work try 192.168.1.1 instead. | FoxyMX (5) | |
2007-03-04 06:02:00 | Some routers have different IPs depending on the interface used, like the DSL-302g has 10.1.1.1 for one, and 10.1.1.2 for the other (USB / Ethernet). Consult your routers documentation / manuals for default IP details

2007-03-04 08:01:00 | thanks guys but i'm a little confused - its a DSL-502T from telecom sitting on the desk in front of me - open IE and go to 10.1.1.1 doesn't give me anything to work with (apparently 192.168.0.1 is the D-LINK) - i was thinking that maybe there's a folder/file that relates to the router that i could open and make changes | jayal (1291) | |
2007-03-04 08:03:00 | The settings and username/password actually only exist on the router itself and not on your computer. You need to access the router's web-based interface to change it. | Jen (38) | |
2007-03-04 08:38:00 | thanks Jen, 192.168.1.1 failed (connection timed out) and 10.1.1.1 wants a usename & password, admin, admin, not accepted - maybe i'll phone xtra help and see what happens - thank yaall for your time | jayal (1291) | |
2007-03-04 08:45:00 | I don't know whether Xtra do the same or not but my ISP sent me a router with my ISP username and password already entered into the router's settings. Have you tried entering your own to see if they work? If they do I would suggest that you change the password while you are there. Your router's IP address is 10.1.1.1.
