529663 2007-03-03 07:33:00 Hi all,

Just wanting to know if its possible to backup a User accounts password in XP

Formatting the familys PC, thought it'd be nice if I can re-install with the same Usernames etc and then just restore the passwords to all their accounts so I dont hafta go through and show them all how to password protect them again. Possible?

Cheers

Looks like this will work but u need a removable drive (don't know if this means a floppy, but it works with a USB flash drive), so it says when u click on backup

And it has to be blank by the looks of it. Not too sure if it'll format it if it isn't.

529669 2007-03-04 05:58:00 I dont have their passwords though.. Its not a major, just thought Id see if I could do it for the hell of it, something like backing up the SAM file?

Anyways, I know it'd take me like 5-6 minutes to grab each family member individually, show them how to change their password, yadda yadda...

Dont have access to their passwords right now and really cant be assed changing it. Apparently if I change their passwords it'll lose their saved IE passwords etc. which they'd love backed up too.

So I s'pose its more than just the user accounts passwords im thinkin of backing up?

529671 2007-03-04 21:43:00 Ah, Yes, Why didnt I think of that before?! I already have 4 & 5 on me, got them from some security top 100 tools website a lil while back

*Feels kinda stupid now..*

Thanks :D

What about all their stored IE passwords etc, would they be backed up if I backed up their Documents & Settings folder? Am I better off learning to use USMT or something?
