530609 2007-03-06 05:50:00 My DVD burner isn't working. Put the disk in and it just spins and spins (and the green light flashes furiously) and nothing happens. My DVD Rom drive does work (but that's no use as I can't burn from it). I was wondering whether it might just not be getting enough power, or maybe it's just screwed and time for a new one.

How much stuff could I expect to power from a 350w power supply? I don't run much stuff on my PC, and I don't play much games etc. or have a high-end GPU.

I have 3HDDs, 2 optical drives, graphics card... I added the third HDD a few weeks ago, but only noticed the burner not working a couple of days ago. I can't remember if I've used it since adding the new HDD.

Is it my PSU or my DVD burner?

Thanks,
Mike.

530610 2007-03-06 05:54:00 And how have u connected the 3 hdd's? Is one SATA?

And are the hdd's on the same ide connection, and the dvd and burner on the same ide connection as well?

And are they jumpered properly as well?

Both the PATA drives are on the same channel, and both DVDs are on the same channel. They have been like that for a couple of years, so I would assume the jumpers are all correct.

Windows can see the drive, tells me it's operating normally, knows when I insert a disk (DVD, DVDR, CD, doesn't make any difference), but it just spins and does nothing (I have to eject the disk for it to stop and for Windows to stop searching for it).

530612 2007-03-06 06:03:00 I would pull the plug off the dvd then see if the burner works.

That should tell us if the PSU needs updating.
