530615 2007-03-06 05:14:00 so this has got me scratching the noggin :help:

Im working on an old Compaq running Windows ME :dogeye: and it has got the above prob. (and another one, details to follow). When you go into the control panel there are no icons. The bar on the bottom of the explorer windows says there are 33 items but the window is empty. I've seen this prob. before and it has been a virus/spyware, cant remember, so i've run Spybot, Xsoft and AVG but nothing has been found. When i boot into Safe mode the icons are there, so windows seems OK and whetever is doing this is loading at startup, here is the HiJack this log, however all seems OK to me ...

The second problem i have with this PC is when i go to check e-mail using UK Yahoo web-mail, i can get into the mail page, see the e-mails, open them but when i open them i only get to see the part of the message that tells me who has sent it and who it has been CC'd too etc.
I have changed the security levels to minimal, but no luck. The page is viewed fine using Firefox.

TIA

530616 2007-03-06 05:35:00 Is this all of the log? it looks like half of it is missing.

Taken from here (www.kellys-korner-xp.com)

Control Panel - Icons Missing

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Look in the right pane and you'll see the Control Panel Icons that have been disabled. You can either right click on the "don't load" subkey and select Delete to restore all disabled icons, or you can right click on each of the items in the right pane and select Delete to selectively restore them. Scroll up to Control Panel Applets for a listing of what each one is.

The change will be seen the next time you open Control Panel.

I would also install a firewall if this PC is on the net.

530618 2007-03-06 06:00:00 Post another log. I dont think you've posted all of it.

I take it you're in the UK?

I wouldnt have a clue why Yahoo email isnt working.

Ah that registry entry I posted may not apply to Windows ME. Just noticed this is what you're using.

Sounds like IE is the prob somewhere, since FF works.
