530495 2007-03-06 08:27:00 The suggested post solved the Firewall On/Off Problem. Thanks. I have now turned off the firewall but the other computers in the workgroup still cannot gain access to my computer. It would appear the firewall is not the problem.

What else blocks access to a workgroup machine??

530496 2007-03-06 08:31:00 Is Nortons firewall still on?

Which firewall did u turn off? Windows or Nortons, or are both off now? (Not a good idea if its on the net).

If its ok/on now, check and see if the mask for the network is in it. There has to be an entry in it under network cant remember where now so other PC's can access it.

Even if u disabled the Windows firewall (which shouldnt be on, if another firewall is installed), if Nortons is ok and running, it'll block access until u configure the network stuff in it.

530497 2007-03-06 08:48:00 Tried it with both firewalls off. Norton is configured correctly to allow the workgroup computers access so it must be something else. Nomis (11962)
530498 2007-03-06 08:55:00 Check Windows firewall in control panel / exceptions tab is file and printing sharing still ticked?

Does Nortons still work tho, when it is running? Or if u enable it?

Or did that virus whatever it was kill it?

The folder you shared on your PC, is it still shared??

530499 2007-03-06 09:05:00 Windows firewall is still off but when on the file and print sharing is ticked.

Norton is on and working and configured to allow access by the workgroup computers.

I have un-shared and re-shared the folders on my machine but still the other computers get the message shown in post #7 above.

Reload windows?

530500 2007-03-06 09:23:00 Whats in the network part of Nortons?? A mask like 255.255.255.0??

Or did u put in the ips of the networked PC's?

Do all of the PC's get on the net? And its just everyone else cant share the folder on your PC right?

530501 2007-03-06 09:40:00 Norton configuration hasn't changed since the problem arose. In the networking tab the trusted addresses are 192.168.0.0 Mask 255.255.255.0.

All other PC's still access the net ok via adsl router/modem and can see each other in the workgroup. My PC can see them but they can't see me.

530502 2007-03-06 09:44:00 How many computers in this workgroup/LAN??

And what are they running? XP Home / Pro / other?

And besides the PC thats got Nortons, do any of the other PC's have firewalls too?

And whats the main PC thats connected to the net / with the router running?

530503 2007-03-06 18:43:00 Another thing to check is the workgroup name.

It sounds like your PC workgroup name has changed. (all of the workgroup names have to be the same).

Which is why its dropped off the network, and none of the other PC's can see it.
