I bought a Viewsonic 19" VX922 awhile ago and I'll be running Linux.
Cheers,

But a lot of that software will only work with windows or on a mac.... or am I wrong?

530298 2007-03-06 03:40:00 Well the software that the poster is going to install, includes the following.

AutoDesk 3D Studio Max, Photoshop CS2, illustrator CS2, might run adobe after effects

If they are retail copies, they would set them back tens of thousands of dollars, so the cost of the computer and the OS would be a drop in the bucket.

I think the price should actually be closer to 10k or under for that lot. I priced up the Adobe CS2 package myself the other day which goes for about $2,200 (memory is a wee bit foggy) not sure about Autodesk or After effects but they should be under 3k each.

530299 2007-03-06 06:37:00 The key word is STUDENT. It wont cost anything like 10 grand. Metla (12)
530300 2007-03-06 07:20:00 I was just thinking that after I posted. winmacguy (3367)

SOme software is still expensive as a student. I think it was almost $1000 for 3D studio alone for a student licence.

Still I don't think the software works under linux, at least I don't think photoshop does.

530302 2007-03-06 08:23:00 The thread starter never mentioned Linux.:illogical

And with the right contacts (meaning a school that has struck a deal) you can get a 2 year time limited student edition of 3d Studio Max for a couple of hundred dollars, Though most students I know never paid a cent for their software.........
