531314 2007-03-08 22:09:00 I have a computer that will only boot to ide check, it stalls there.
The hard drive checked ok
I figure the motherboard is buggered.
I installed a diagnostics card & got a code 26 on a Phoenix Bios.
I read the description but it was a bit to techie for me.
Could someone simply explain to me what code 26 is and if there is a repair for it.

Thank you.

531315 2007-03-08 22:21:00 I would find out what the brand/model of the diagnostic card is.

Then find out what the codes it brings up mean. Must be a manual or something for it somewhere.

Most BIOS probs are recognised by beeps not codes.

What does the description say if it shows one?

531316 2007-03-08 22:26:00 Enable A20 line. Verify/Load NVRAM parameters. NZHawk (4093)
531317 2007-03-08 22:35:00 Ah ha, I just found the code here (bioscentral.com)

I think its got something to do with the keyboard.

Is the keyboard plugged in properly, or is it working?

See if there's an A20 gate option in the BIOS, if its off enable it.

531318 2007-03-08 22:41:00 Thank you...
Tried several keyboard.
The keyboard lights work (CAP Locks, NumLock...)
Computer still hangs at Detecting IDE Drives

531319 2007-03-08 22:46:00 I would check the BIOS for a A20 gate option.

Or set the BIOS to its defaults and reconfigure the BIOS settings.

Have u tried another IDE cable?? And is the IDE cable connected the right way ?

531320 2007-03-08 22:50:00 I haven't been able to get into bios because of the hang @ Detecting IDE Drives.
I have pulled the CMOS battery & will try it after lunch.

Is that long enough to clear the bios?

Thank you.
I will keep you posted.

531321 2007-03-08 22:52:00 Yup a min - 2 mins should be long enough for it to clear the BIOS settings.

Put the jumper back when you're ready and see what happens.

531322 2007-03-09 00:07:00 Put the CMOS jumper on clear for quite a while,
replaced it.
Reboot still hangs @ Detecting IDE Drives
