(im looking for an ultraportable ... and powerful one too) Dell laptops feel cheap and plasticy and the cases creak when they are moved around. I have a ins 8600, and although it has been ok, I wouldn't buy another Dell laptop. I would recommend buying one from a retailer where you can look at it and try it out. |

| 531266 | 2007-03-09 06:37:00 | I have a Dell Inspiron 640m, purchased early this year. I am very very happy with it - excellent performance, battery life (I can get 6-7hrs on a high-capacity battery), and most importantly for me is that its very quiet. I've found that despite it being made primarily of plastic (the case), it doesn't "feel" like it's going to break. I happily pick it up with one hand in a corner, and it doesn't bend or flex. |

You mean it is brand new. You wouldn't expect any problems with something that is brand new. Mine is 2 and a half years old. One thing about the dell silver finish on it, is that it does show the wear and tear. |

| 531270 | 2007-03-09 23:58:00 | Dell get a hard time on this forum. They actually make pretty good gear at good prices. I don't know about the home user range of laptops, but I have a couple of PII lattitudes kicking round at home that run perfectly. Bought some cheap knock off batteries and they are likely to run forever (prolly 7 years old and counting already!!) We have about a hundred D810 dell laptops at work and they seldom require repair. Toshiba who used to be my favorite in the late 90s now seem to have lots of failures, -only my opinion of course. |

| 531271 | 2007-03-10 04:06:00 | My IBM is almost 3.5 years old and it is absolutely in great condition. No wear and tear is evident on the paint work although one hinge is a bit loose, other than that no problems at all. | beeswax34 (63) | ||
