531509 2007-03-09 10:37:00 Hi Guys,

I have 2 XP machines and 2 Win2K Pro machines here at home. All were talking nicely to each other until today. MY HTPC, which runs Win 2K very reliably, now can no longer connect to the internet and when i try to access the machine from another PC I get either:

"The network path was not found" or "The Server Service was not started"

I have had a look in the LAN Setup, and the workgroup is still the same as it has always been...

I have not made any config changes to this machine, and it is set to receive and install updates daily from Microsoft...

Any ideas guys?:help:

Scroll down to the Server service and right click on it and select start.

It sounds like somthing is mucking with your networking. Is the network card in your HTPC still functioning? If you got to CMD prompt, can you ping 127.0.0.1 (will confirm that networking is going), can you ping any other address on your network?

Thanks for the reply.... I discovered the fault, interesting one too...

After having another look in device manager this morning, I noticed that my 3Com NIC was'nt showing anymore...strange, as it still had activity lights on the back of it showing a valid 100MB connection. I pulled the card, and swapped it for one I had in the junk drawer, and hey presto...connectivity is restored...

Not sure why this NIC failed, but here ya go...
