2007-03-09 04:38:00 The laptop I have will not see the HD. It has a floppy & CD, allots C: to the CD. Tried another HD with no result. No apparent faults - any suggestions? locobill (11977)
2007-03-09 05:33:00 It might have had the primary IDE controller disabled in the BIOS, though this seems unlikely. ;)

Have a look at the BIOS settings. (Try F10 or F12 if it doesn't tell you on the screen just before the POST how to enter the setup.)

2007-03-10 03:53:00 Have tried F10 & F12 but no result. I know on desktop Compaqs you use F10 while a little square flashes on screen but it didn't work on the laptop. Anyone have an idea how to access said BIOS? locobill (11977)
2007-03-10 04:25:00 Try F1 or F2 or DEL snoopy (74)
2007-03-10 04:33:00 From this thread (sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/printthread.php?t=143075&pp=40) it appears that F10 is the key to get into the setup. I get the impression that the battery which maintains the BIOS settings isn't. :D Graham L (2)
2007-03-10 21:35:00 Well boys, I've tried all the f numbers, esc, del, alt/esc, alt/del, shift/esc and nothing has worked. Sigh. locobill (11977)
2007-03-10 21:38:00 From this thread (sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/printthread.php?t=143075&pp=40) it appears that F10 is the key to get into the setup. I get the impression that the battery which maintains the BIOS settings isn't. :D

Have you checked out this link GrahamL gave you, it sounds the same problem you are having, it maybe the battery needs replacing.....:)

2007-03-11 00:02:00 Try pressing F10 immediately after turning it on, and holding the key down. If it doesn't do a normal entry to the setup it might give an error message and give the opportunity of selecting the setup. :D Graham L (2)
2007-03-11 20:04:00 Thanks - finally followed the link and very informative. Put new CMOS battery in, its connection might have been crook. Still trying. locobill (11977)
2007-03-11 22:21:00 Have now concluded the CMOS chip must be faulty. Thank you all. locobill (11977)
