531332 2007-03-09 01:01:00 What is necessary to run a program that requires a disk by putting the disk onto the hd? Friends have a maths program for their child and want to keep the cd clean and safe. It would be simpler to run the program without having to find the disk and wait for it to load. Is there a freebie program? Maybe 'Alcohol' ($$)? Apologies - this topic has probably been discussed here before but I am not sure what words to use for a search. Thanks. Strommer (42)
531333 2007-03-09 02:37:00 You could most probably use something like Poweriso or Winimage as well .

BUT these arent free . BUT, both let u create floppy or CD images .

(Altho with Winimage, I think u need the files for a floppy) .

Poweriso mounts them .

531334 2007-03-09 03:16:00 For mounting cd images, use a free program called Daemon Tools.
If the CD isn't copy protected, most CD burning programs will usually allow you to create an iso file (or equivelent) this can be found in the CD copy section usually.

If the CD is copy protected, you will have to find out how to make your CD image yourself, as I cant tell you here... (forum rules)

Once you have created your CD image, you can mount it with Daemon Tools.
Unfortunately, D-T cant create CD images for you like alcohol can, nor does it have such a simple interface, however it is easy enough to use.
Mounting an image using D-T has the same effect as physically inserting the CD into the drive tray, and will behave the same way (right down to autorun).

Good Luck!!

531335 2007-03-09 03:35:00 Alcohol 52% has a freebie version out .
\http://trial . alcohol-soft . com/

This version comes with a data findinf utility that can be removed after installation .

Alcohol 52% will let you create an image and let you run that off your computer rather than burning copies . alcohol 120 does that .
