531185 2007-03-08 03:56:00 Hey guys, I may be wayyy off here, but is is possible to network between two computers via an ethernet cable/broadband modem?

My bro and I both have our laptops connected to the same broadband D-Link modem via ethernet cables, so I was wondering is it possible to network via them?

We want to play games using Lan instead of online, share files easily etc.

531186 2007-03-08 04:26:00 If you both are connected straight into the modem via 1 ethernet cable each you can set up a network that way. As for the games im not sure if its the same for all games but for any steam (www.steampowered.com) game it should be under that LAN games tab as soon as one person sets up a new game. Hope this helps and somebody correct me if im wrong.. w000t (11562)
531187 2007-03-08 04:34:00 How do I set it up then? --Wolf-- (128)
531188 2007-03-08 05:32:00 If you're both connected to the broadband router, you're already set up. All you have to do is enable filesharing on one computer, and you can access them from the other.

Try running the "Set up a home or small office network" from the Network Connections window.

531189 2007-03-08 08:18:00 HELP:

We're both connected to the internet via the same modem (Each with the ethernet cable) but I can't get networking to work.

I went to the setup home or office network thingy and put the netsetup onto a 32mb Sandisk thing (Cant think of the name)....mini hardrive thing....and installed it on the other laptop, then made sure the shared folder in my documents is set to shared. I then created a folder in there, but he cannot see it on his. So he created one in there but I cannot see it on mine.

What am I doing wrong???

531191 2007-03-08 08:31:00 All u haveta do is create a folder and share it on each, (dont share the whole hdd), and make sure the workgroups are the same.

If any firewalls are on either, add the network to it. And dont use the Network Wizard its hopeless and doesnt work. Do it manually.

Well if you're already connected via ethernet it must have a network card in it.

Just create a folder call it whatever right mouse on it and select sharing and security. To share it, Then right mouse on my computer on the desktop (if its there and if both use XP).

Go to the computer name tab make sure the workgroup where it says workgroup are the same on both PC's. Then see if u can share whatever folder.

You'll have to see if it works by going to my network places and add a network place, see if they show up here (the folders u created and shared).

Read the FAQ in here.
