| 531114 | 2007-03-07 22:19:00 | Hi everyone Quite some time ago the hard disk in my friend's Sony Vaio VGN-S56GP laptop went faulty, causing it to randomly crash with the disk making ticking noises whenever this happened. This week we ordered a replacement drive (www.playtech.co.nz) and yesterday it arrived. After finally taking the laptop apart I found that the old hard disk (a Fujitsu) had no pins in the SATA data connector slot, and was only connected to the laptop via the power connection. The new drive however had both a power connector along with a data one, which led me to worry as to whether it would work or not. I fitted it in anyway, connecting it to the only connector available on the laptop (power one). Now after putting it all back together it turns out it didnt work. I can hear the drive powering up and spinning, but the laptop BIOS simply says no hard disk found. What I want to know now is, is there any way around this? I havent been able to find any information about the laptops hard disk on the internet, and I realise Sony would charge a fortune to fix it. All help is appreciated. If you need any more details let me know. |
