We have not got 98 boot disk yet as we have been trying other suggestions.we are pushing f5 or f8 and it gets us to safe mode then tells us keyboard error. would we have got this far if we had an error because the kryboard takes us to safe mode by pressing the above keys we will try different keyboard this afternoon then get back to you. |

What type of keyboard is it? (PS2 – USB- Bluetooth etc)
What happens if you just turn it on at the power button and touch nothing? |

I can answer that one, even though they are in Dunedin and I am in Christchurch. Turn it on, touch nothing, and you have wallpaper, eventually, but nothing else. Control, alt, delete, gives you task manager, with nothing in it. |

Just a typical one, plugged in the back, not usb, is it called ps2 or serial. Just a common keyboard, not wireless or anything fancy. But when I was there at the weekend, we weren't getting a keyboard error. So guess something else is going wrong now. |

instead of all this fluffing around get that boot disk and run the process of scanreg /restore as I've sugested..... |

I've got a Windows ME boot disk here. Do you want me to email you all the files off it? |

they've been directed to www.bootdisk.com to download a win98 boot disk.....I cant remember whether the ME disk gives the 'command prompt only' option at boot so I reccomended the win98 one which I KNOW does......this is what they need to get to so they can then go into the windows/command folder and run scanreg /restore |

I forgot, the laptop does not have a floppy drive, so I have just downloaded one on to my xp compter, and are going to burn it and send it down. Will let you know in a few days if they have any success. Thanks for helping. |
