I have been reading reams of stuff re hardware options and how to do etc, etc.

Also see that best option for files is to have a shared folder between the laptop and PC.

However, I do not understand what the possibilities are re sharing programs, especially ones I have bought eg AZZ Cardfile, Acronis etc. Can these exist on just the PC and be used by the laptop or do they need to be installed on both ??
(hmmm, - could be difficult if went to Brazil with the laptop and the PC is still in the North Shore ! :horrified )

532520 2007-03-13 04:21:00 Got to install the programs on each PC I'm afraid, Misty. ;)

You can't run them over a network from one PC to the other unless you are using a remote access type of program but that is slow and cumbersome and the program will be running on one PC only, not both. It also might annoy anyone using the other PC at the time. :p

You can, however, save files across the network. For example you can have Cardfile on both PCs and when using it on the laptop open the desktop's saved AZZ files and save to same. That way you don't get two different copies on each PC. Obvioulsy you can't do this when not connected to the network so you will have to remember to transfer the required files before going AWOL.

Thanks Foxy
That sounds okay. Can put the program on both and hopefully each of them is the type that does not require extra licences ! As you say even though the program runs on the computer in use at that time the actual file(s) relating to that program can be update simultaneously (provided the network is being used).

Not much room for conflict as Mrs Misty more likely to be using a spreadsheet for our finances or a card game, whilst I may be on the web downloading etc. Just need to be careful if I want to use Excel to record a good
recipe ! ;)
thanks again
Misty :)

532522 2007-03-13 09:47:00 You will have problems with activation when installing MS programs on your second PC (unless the programs are old). Other programs will probably be fine though they aren't supposed to be installed on one PC at a time. ;) FoxyMX (5)
