532792 2007-03-15 00:35:00 Hi Guys, from another Acronis fan!

My (slightly older I suspect) version of Acronis has two useful options:

- Check Image - scans the image file and says OK (or not!).

- Explore Image - mounts the image as a "drive letter" in windows explorer. Easy to open or copy files from here. My version does not let you add or change files already in the image.

Hi, I don't see either option named as such in V10 but there must be a similar function. Still finding my way around this program but I think I need to read the Manual over a few times. Cheers.

I have found "Explore Backup Archive" which is the same as your "Explore Image" I guess. Perhaps you can clear something up for me.
I have four partitions on my HDD and these backed up ok in Acronis which lists them as Vol 1 to Vol 4. Now i.e. when I click on Vol 1 it brings up my partitions C,D,E, and F and I would have expected that I could only have a look at my C partition but I can access the other three partitions also and likewise I can view all partitions from either of the other Vol 2 to 4 (partitions D,E,and F) Is this normal?. I suppose the answer is simple but I can't see it?.

532796 2007-03-15 03:56:00 Hi Pato,

We are using different versions, but how about this...

Perhaps you have "imaged" the entire drive (including the partitions) in one hit. In that case, maybe trying to open any one part will automatically open the whole "job".

You can also image each partition one-at-a-time, and would then get four completely seperate image files.

I keep Windows and Apps on one partition, and data on another. For the moment, the Windows/Apps image fits nicely onto one DVD.

Hi Misty, Well I did something right. I presume I can now do a backup of one of the partitions or another image backup of my HDD when considered necessary?. An image backup would be easier eh?. I also see there are program 'updates' or 'builds' that are released and I presume that each time you update Acronis it is necessary to do another bootable rescue CD.

532800 2007-03-15 09:04:00 Pato,I only do a full backup of C drive to my E drive.Don't bother with backing up D drive with Acronis as all the stuff on it is copied to another external drive as I go. And have never bothered with incremental or differential backups neither.
Usually do an image if I've changed something on C.Probably every week or so, and only keep 2-3 tibs as backups.
So each time I do a backup, I name it the next number in line from when I started, so I'm up to 22nd.tib so far.All saved in a folder called Acronis Images on E drive.
Also I get the program to verify the image it's just made. That's in options. Or you can, after doing the image, go back and select Explore and validate backup archives/validate backup archive and choose the one you just made.
You can also pick explore backup archive, choose the tib (image file) you want to explore and it'll open in a windows explorer frame. Then you can copy anything from that folder to somewhere else.
Have been using this program since version 8 and it's saved me a lot of hassle with my old pc that my sister had. Any trouble and I just reloaded the last image I'd done for her!
Have fun!
