| 533899 | 2007-03-18 02:58:00 | Hi, i'm not sure if this question has been posted but as i'm so short on time due to the fact my monitor may blank out i started a new thread. Basically my monitor....It randomly turns blank from nowhere...the power remains on on the tower and the monitor but the whole screen is just blank. In the end i have to just switch it off and turn it back on...but it keeps displayin a blank screen...so i leave it for about 15 mins and then it works fine...one thing that i have noticed is that whenever it turns blank and i switch the pc off the 'Num Lock' key remains lit and when i switch it off normally as in when there has been no black screen the Num Lock light is not on when pc switched off....i have ran various spyware software but nothing that would prevent it turning black, i have also checked the cables etc...i'm not sure how to like post a list of specs..if you could advise me how to as i understand it may help with people respondin....... if you could help me out asap i would appreciate it as i have alot of assignments to do...thanks alot... |

So it would be a good idea to either try the monitor with another computer, and/or to use a dos boot disk and a dos monitor test utility, or, to borrow another monitor and try it on your computer. |

Sometimes it comes right again straight away, or I have to turn it off for a while, but it is getting worse. | Rod J (451) | ||

Unfortunately, the cost and trouble of repairing it would likely be greater than the price of a new monitor. (And, as well as the empty wallet for repairing, you would still have an old monitor.) :badpc: :groan: |

| 533905 | 2007-03-18 20:53:00 | Before installing updated drivers, start the computer in safe mode. If you still get the problem, then the fault could either be in the video card, or in the monitor. It can't be the video card drivers as they do not load in safe mode, (well only basic vga, that is why if you boot from a dos boot disk, the basic vga mode built into the motherboard only is working, no connection with software.) So if you still have the problem, the next step is to work out whether it is the video card or the monitor, by using another monitor, or by trying your monitor on another computer. |
